one of the first things I did was to purchase a 35mm camera. I wanted to learn how to shoot in manual mode and capture the beauty and wonder of life around me. I also wanted to give back to all the creatives like me who use the amazing photo-sharing website, Unsplash. Generous photographers upload their work to Unsplash offering it for completely free use to anyone wishing to download their images. Now, four years later, I have uploaded over 370 of my photographs to Unsplash! I am thrilled and humbled that they are being used. Currently, my images have almost 6 million views and over 40,000 downloads. I'm in the top 10% of contributors. Free. I love that word for so many reasons. the sunrise revealed that my city... our county...actually hundreds of miles in southern Georgia... had been destroyed overnight by Hurricane Helene. We live in a pine forest. Pine trees cannot withstand sustained Category 3 hurricane-force winds. Most trees can't. We lost whole groves of pecan trees and stately oaks. Thousands upon thousands of 100 year-old trees fell that night. Winds like these were unprecedented. Many trees fell on or through people's roofs endangering sleeping residents. Our community resembled a warzone in every way. Thankfully, help came and recovery continues. God is good. I wanted you to know. |
