our county...actually hundreds of miles in southern Georgia...
had been destroyed overnight by Hurricane Helene.

We live in a pine forest.
Pine trees cannot withstand
sustained Category 3 hurricane-force winds.
Most trees can't. 
We lost whole groves
of pecan trees and stately oaks.
Thousands upon thousands of
100 year-old trees fell that night.
Winds like these were unprecedented.
Many trees fell on or through
people's ​roofs endangering
​sleeping residents.
Our community resembled a warzone in every way.
Thankfully,
help came and recovery continues.
God is good.
